Honey, you need help!
September 9, 2011

HONEY, GET HELP! Do you feel you have to do it all yourself? Sometimes I will think that if I give in and hire someone to help me, I’ve lost the battle. I want to believe I can bring home the bacon AND fry it up in a pan! Why? Cuz’ I’m a W O M A N? No, because I’m C R A Z Y!

Don’t tell anyone but…
December 11, 2009

Maybe I do like them. In fact, maybe I like them so much that it hurts to have them show a side of themselves that is unappealing or unattractive? Whatever the reason, I think I have a better shot at correcting their behavior if I am accepting and loving towards them.

You’ve Got Rhythm
December 5, 2009

Sometimes when we head into the holidays we can feel like we are out of step. The world is dancing too fast and we can’t keep up, or we are involved in so many different dances, we don’t know whether to tap, break or swing. Often we end up doing all three at once; madly pirouetting and do-see-do-ing until we feel like the 2nd runner up in a 48 hour dance marathon. We know we should be enjoying ourselves; after all, it is a season of joy and giving. But inside, we secretly wish we could throw off the dance shoes, and put our feet up armed with a quart of our favorite ice cream and a very large spoon.

Don’t Question It!
November 22, 2009

When all three of my children are with me and they are firing their questions, I feel like Venus Williams on the tennis courts; darting to one side to smash that answer back and then diving for the next question without losing my footing. I can get through about 7 easily answered questions and one unanswerable question before I need a break. It’s exhausting and invigorating.

Throw me a curve!

I know I can get jeans that I love if I’m willing to take out a second mortgage on my house or deprive my children of food for a few days, but neither option has made much sense to me. But, this weekend, I found the solution at the GAP. They have a variation on the jean, called THE CURVY.

Motivation Schmotivation

Like climbing the mountains of Tibet to learn the secret of life from a Buddhist Master, climbing into our heads to figure out the secret to motivation, can be a long journey. Thankfully, the scenery along the way is breathtaking – but I digress.

Not just rummage!
October 25, 2009

After it was all cleaned up and we sat in a small group looking at the cafeteria that just hours before was teeming with odds and ends, we shared stories. We talked about the man who argued over paying $1 for a bag of dvd’s and the woman who shows up each year and pretends to be a parent so she can get in before the official opening. Tired, hungry and dusty, we shared the experience.

Everything’s negotiable (or so it seems.)
October 9, 2009

Perhaps, parents have an opportunity to teach responsibility, communication and self-confidence through negotiation. But the first negotiation may have to take place inside the parent’s mind and heart. After all, negotiation is an art and a craft. With some practice, parents can master both and that could be a wonderful gift to their children.

Don’t question it
September 27, 2009

The questions my children ask me are humorous, unnerving, mind-bending and annoying. Depending on my mood, I can field a limited number of questions in rapid-fire succession and then I need a break. Sometimes I try to give thoughtful answers. Other times I tell them to go “look it up!” At times the question is [...]

Life Balance – what a load of hooey!
September 20, 2009

Here’s another possibility; your definition of life balance may not match what you are told “life balance” should look like. What if you did a mental sweep and threw out all the information you have been given about life balance and then started anew? What if you created your own definition? Here’s a thought! Take a moment and focus on you. Ask yourself: Do you feel balance in this moment? Why or why not? Is it really about more family time or a specific experience with your family? Is it about yoga and meditation, or an experience that brings you?
