You’ll never eat lunch in this town again
April 8, 2010

Well, you’ll never eat lunch in this town until 2010! I cannot think of anymore variations on the lunch I make for my three children. Peanut butter, Nutella, fresh fruit, dried fruit, protein bars, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, soup, I can’t do no more.. I CAN’T DO NO MORE!

Gotta dance!
November 26, 2009

My instructor is endlessly patient, as I try to identify the muscle at the very top of my abdomen, up under my chest bone. Once I do that, she tells me, I will be able to work on rippling my muscles downward. HA! Then we will work on what the hips do during this process. HA HA! When I look in the mirror at my awkward attempts to tighten and loosen my muscles at will, I find myself either embarrassed or on the edge of hysteria.

Throw me a curve!

I know I can get jeans that I love if I’m willing to take out a second mortgage on my house or deprive my children of food for a few days, but neither option has made much sense to me. But, this weekend, I found the solution at the GAP. They have a variation on the jean, called THE CURVY.

Napping.. it’s a SNAP!
October 19, 2009

Today I took a nap and it was a SNAP. Ah, the luxury of the nap on a sunday afternoon. I know I should be helping my son with homework, playing an educational board game with my daughter, cleaning out the garage, working on the baby scrapbook, writing the curriculum for my class, reading Barack Obama’s book and planning a healthy dinner.

Birthday’s – a challenge or a celebration?
October 13, 2009

And then there are the middle of the road semi-celebrationists. They are happy to celebrate their Birthday but since they are in charge of arranging and planning every other special event in the household, the idea of planning their own Birthday sounds like a chore. The real Birthday gift is in not planning anything and the people who love them are often left wondering what they should do for mom’s birthday – after all, mom usually tells them what they are doing!

Oy, the minutia!
September 28, 2009

Are we to show rapt interest in all of these musings? It seems impolite to be inattentive, but on the other hand, if I have to be engaged in all of the goings and comings of these emerging brains, I think I may lose it. I try to listen with semi-interest – a skill that many a parent has perfected

Life Balance – what a load of hooey!
September 20, 2009

Here’s another possibility; your definition of life balance may not match what you are told “life balance” should look like. What if you did a mental sweep and threw out all the information you have been given about life balance and then started anew? What if you created your own definition? Here’s a thought! Take a moment and focus on you. Ask yourself: Do you feel balance in this moment? Why or why not? Is it really about more family time or a specific experience with your family? Is it about yoga and meditation, or an experience that brings you?
